What Is The Best Toy Dog?
Filed under Care & Training Q&As
I own a cat and guinea pigs so it would have to be ok with other animals. It would also have to be reletively easy to train and it would have to be quiet (not yapping all the time). What is the best toy dog to get?
I’ve been looking at a Papillon, does anyone have any experience with these dogs?

Papillons are great dogs. They are smart and energetic dogs. They are easy to train and love to play. They do tend to bark a lot. So that might not be the breed for you.
Poodles might be a breed for you to check into, they are great family dogs, they get along with other animals easy to train, don’t bark all the time and love to play.
Another breed, though not as common, but has the traits you are looking for, are Japanese Chins. I’ve had them for many years. They get along with other animals, smart, easy to train and are often described as being “cat like”, because of their quiet nature. They do love to play and be held too.
You should look up small breeds on the American Kennel Club web site, akc.org, and read the traits of different small breeds and you should find the one that suits you. Best of luck. Hope I helped.
most all toy breeds are fun, but the yorkie and the shih tzu are almost impossible to house break, and the chihuahua runs close behind them, I papillon is a great choice, they are smart and funny and easy to train, also the pomeranian, WOW such a great dog, I have one named Louie. the best thing to do I think is go to your library and get a book on dog breeds and look at the pics and read about them, then decide which one is best for you, I would also check out the toy poodle or a min schnauzer, they too are great dogs, but then again I think all dogs are great!!!!!!!!!!!
and remember some breeds require more grooming than others, you will also need to decide if you are willing or able to spend the time and or the money to maintain the coat of some breeds
my favourite dog is a Border Collie, they are average size… have a great personality, she is great with kids and is very friendly with others
she is not exactly a teddy bear dog but is caring, happy, smart, kind and i love mine to bits
and she is very easy to train
Definitely a Shih Tzu. I used to own 2 shih tzus. They are incredible dogs. Perfect size. Wonderful temperament. Sooooo friendly. Nearest thing to a cat!! They don’t need much exercise although they LOVE to go for little walks. They are very happy and content dogs but also have a good bark on them when anyone knocks on the door. They are loving and loyal and everyones best friend!!!! In seven years mine never so much as growled at me!!!! Good luck with your search!
get a PEKINGESE!
i can not sing enough praises for this breed!
when i got mine i was worried that it would be how it was rumored to be, stubborn, stupid, hard to train, and snobbish.
i was so wrong!
They are smart, silly and love kids, mine just loves giving kisses. they are surprisingly easy to train and love to be loved. they dislike exercise. like a five minute walk and she is done. they are huge coush potatoes and just want to be on your lap or in your arms all day!
hands down the best toy breed!
there is no “best” toy dog. you can find the best dog for you though:http://animal.discovery.com/breedselecto…
also, never let your guinea pig roam about while your dog is out, no matter what type of dog it is, it could be killed in seconds
The best is the Bichon Frise. As for yapping, they only bark to let you know a stranger is near; they don’t bark all day. Plus they don’t shed hair! http://www.bestfamilydog.co.uk
It all depends on what you want and how much grooming you want to do. Toy poodles are great dogs they are highly intelligent so are easy to train. They are fun loving dogs.
I suggest a Havanese or a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. They are both very lovable dogs.
Nintendogs
Beagles are my favourite breed of dog
shih tzu

my sister just got a pug lassa mixed. He is so so adorable and gentle.
