Dog Training Help!!!?
Filed under Care & Training Q&As
I own a papillon. he is a silly dog with lots of energy. When i got him the breeder told me he was 18 months. But the vet thinks he is between 3 and 5 years. I love him and am not giving him up.
So either way Boomer didnt know anything when we got him. Talk about teaching an old dogs new tricks…….
So the problem now is that he only eats about less than a cup of food a day. Needless to say he gets full from his treats fast, then wont continue. Is there any treat i can give him??? Any ideas???
On top of this Boomer has an attention span of about 30 seconds. He gets bored and cares more about the little spec on the carpet than anything I have to say.
He is very particular about what he will eat. He was kept in a kennel and is aginst the unfamilar. He wont even eat raw hides I buy from the store for him.
Please help.
Help Training My Sheltie?
Filed under Care & Training Q&As
I have a female sheltie who will be 2 in December. She’s a great pet, very smart, playful, and sweet. The only problem is the way she treats our other animals. I have a papillon who is 11 yo and her days of playing are over. I also have a 3 yo cat.
Whenever Cleo (the sheltie) comes in contact with the other dog or cat she jumps all over them, licking them, biting them, and sometimes making them yelp or cry unintentionally. I’ve tried scolding her, telling her no everytime she tries to jump but as soon as I turn around, she goes right back at it.
I know sheltie’s are sheep hearding dogs so it’s probably a control issue, but what’s a good way to get her to stop this behavior for the sake of my other pets?
A Question About House Training A Small Dog?
Filed under Care & Training Q&As
I have 2 papillons, the first one I got 4 months ago. She wasn’t hard to train, it took about a week and a half. The second one, I’ve had for a week, and she doesn’t seem to even be catching on. She refuses to go outside at all (lived in a kennel her whole 2 yrs.) and when we put her there she darts back in. She has done her business outside, but its difficult to know if she’s catching on to it, she doesn’t seem to be. She does her job inside also, anywhere and everywhere. Any suggestions? Are some small dogs just not trainable? I need as much advise as possible before I give up on her and let her go.
Crate Training?
Filed under Care & Training Q&As
I have a 10wk old Papillon little girl. We got her about 3 weeks ago. My husband and I are trying to crate train her but it’s not going very well. Everytime she is put in the crate she starts howling, crying, whining and barking. She pulls at the cage door trying to get out. It is absolutely horrible. The behavior has not gotten any better over time. We tried to put her in at night to sleep but forget it. The noise is even louder. If we want any sleep at all, she has to come into bed with us. She passes right out then. Yet, the other night she decided to wake up and pee in the bed!! Gross! When she has been in bed with us my husband typically gets up once or twice to take her out in the middle of the night. He just didn’t happen to wake up in time when she peed in bed. Does anyone have any advice. We go to the vet with her tonight so I will be talking to him about it as well. I am at a loss. She is so miserable in the crate! Any help?

Training My Dog To Use A Dog “litter” Box …?
Filed under Care & Training Q&As
My girlfriend and I just got a Papitese (Papillon Maltese mix) and we want to litter box train her. She is only 12 weeks old and we figure it’s best to do it while she’s young. Things are going okay (she’s used it once on her own, and only had one accident on the rug.. the rest have been on the pads near the box).
She really loves chewing her bone while laying in the box (when it’s clean, she won’t lay in it if there’s any poo in there… good thing!)
Should I let her do this or should I try and stop it? I know dogs won’t go where they sleep. I don’t want her to get too comfortable with the box that she won’t go in it.
How Can I Stop My Dog Obsessing To Chew Some Papers? I Struggled Training Him Stopping To Chew…?
Filed under Care & Training Q&As
I am deaf. I worked very hard to train Lucky a right way. He mostly listened me a lot, but his temptation is chewing a lot of towel and regular papers. Every day, I put a paper or napkin on a coffee table. He quickly grab them then he run under a table which I can’t catch him by immediately. I chased and tried catching him, but he is a smart dog for moving an opposite of me then running around my apt. I struggled training him since he was a puppy. He recently turns one year old. He is Papillon. Mostly, his behavior is good. His temptation is obsessing to chew a lot of papers and towel papers. I did take a treat for encouraging him dropping a paper off… However, he is very stubborn to me. He thinks I am playing a game with him…
Puppy Dog Agility Training?
Filed under Care & Training Q&As
I have a papitzu (papillon shih tzu mix). He is 9 weeks old. He is a bundle of energy and loves his training sessions. I have been wanting to do agility and I also thought that it would direct his energy. I heard that it will destroy there bones if I d it to early. So what age is the very best. He already knows how to sit, stay, come here, get down, no, good puppy, and he is already fully potty trained, and he kind of knows over and around. So besides basic training what can I do and at what age. I will give best answer and as many points as I can to the best answers
Please only serious answers
and resonable ones thank you
Dog’s Training Reversed By New Puppy?
Filed under Care & Training Q&As
We have a 2 1/2 yr old lab. He’s been potty trained for well over a year now. 7 months ago, we got a papillon puppy. She’s been significantly more difficult to train, and still has “accidents”. This morning, I found that my lab had an “accident”. Has anyone hear of an older dog acting out or his training being “reversed” by the bad behavior of a new puppy? The puppy has also been getting a lot of attention lately – vet visits, that sort of thing… so could he be jealous and acting out?
Trouble With Litter Training?
Filed under Care & Training Q&As
Hi,
We just (kind of) successfully litter trained our 3 year-old Papillon. However, the past two days when he’s been going to the bathroom, he’s been pooping outside of the litter box close to our toilet. He’ll pee in there though. I can’t really scold him, because I don’t catch him doing it, because he doesn’t like when we watch him (obviously) and I’m just happy he’s going in the bathroom. So, my question is, what could be the cause of this and how can I correct it? Thanks!
