I’ve Just Rescued A Mom & Her 2 Pups. I Need To Crate Train Them But I Have No Idea How Big A Crate I Need.

This is not a large-breed dog. The mom is a Papillon mix and the dad was a medium-sized poodle-mix. I’ve allowed the pups and mom to have free reign of the apartment, with disasterous results. I love having them sleep in bed with me at night, but the “accidents” all over the apartment are horrid. Mom’s mostly house-trained. I just don’t always read her signals right. And I’m gone sometimes for hours at a time. I don’t want to put them in separate crates, but I don’t know what the best size would be. I also don’t have all that much room in my apartment for a huge crate either. HELP!!!

How Can I Get Them To Potty In The Rain?

I’m potty-training my dogs (chihuahua, papillon-poodle) and they’re doing good. My problem is when it rains they won’t get off the back porch (we let them out in our fenced back yard to potty) and go use the bathroom. They wait until we let them back in and potty in the house. How can I get them to go even when it’s raining or damp outside? And I don’t mean like drenching rain I mean just a light mist. I know they know it’s wrong but where else are they gonna go since they won’t get off the porch?

How Do I Train My Puppy To Pick Up Her Toys And Put Them In Her Basket?

My Papillon puppy is 10 mons. old and is a very intelligent little pup. She knows how to take her toys out of her ‘toy basket’ and bring them to us – but not how to put them back in! I’m sick of picking up after her; is there a way to train her to put the toys away herself?

If A Papillon Puppy Growls When You Try To Take Something Away, How Do You Train Them To Stop?

Whatever you do don’t jump away and show fear. It will encourage more aggressive behavior.
Calmy keep your hand above the toy to block your puppy from it.
If your dog is play growling it will immediately back away from the toy.
If your dog seems to get more intense it is challenging you. (you may get bit but it’s a puppy now so it won’t hurt. If you get bit stay absolutely still and act like the biting doesn’t hurt you at all) Use a loud noise like a horn or someone behind you clapping assertively to distract your dog and snap the nasty thought from it’s mind. Calmly take the toy and when your dog is calm give it back.
Just practice constantly taking your dogs toys and food to get him used to it.
