What Dog Breed Is Best For Me?

So I’ve decided to get another dog in the next one or two years, but I don’t know what breed to look into. The online dog breed selector tests aren’t any good, and my family is giving me mixed answers on to what dog breed I should get. My older sister wants me to get a GSD, my mom thinks that a Norbottenspetz or a Pyrenean Shepherd would be pretty cool, my teacher wants me to get a Wire-haired Pointing Griffon, my dad doesn’t care, and my friends think that I should just get another Cavalier. You guys will probably give me better answers than the internet or my family will (aside from my teacher, they don’t know much about dogs.)
I’m a fairly active person, and I’m looking to do agility and/or flyball with this dog. Currently I have a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. It isn’t that I don’t love him, but he isn’t really a dog that loves to race down a track to press a button to get a ball (he does like agility, but he isn’t the greatest at it). I want to compete in agility with this dog, and my Cav doesn’t really love it enough to be a top competitor.
I have a 3 year old sister, who will be four or five by the time I get the puppy, but I have even younger cousins, and this dog needs to be good with them.
I know I can handle a dog that is as big as a lab, but I would be hesitant of getting something bigger.
The dog would only be alone for 1-2 hours at a time, I take my dogs most every where I go, so I’m not really concerned with how long the dog will spend alone. Even so, I do have two other dogs that could keep it company.
I would like a dog that is smart, and easy to train.
I have suggested some breeds to my parents already that they have already vetoed. The first dog I brought up when I asked them about it was a Border Collie, and that idea was instantly thrown into the garbage. I love Borders, but my mother and my extended family has had some problems with snappy ones. The Papillon was another breed my mother didn’t want anything to do with, so something bigger than them is probably a good idea.
So I’m looking for a small(bigger than a pap that is) or medium sized dog. I would like one that is smart and easy to train. A dog that is known for it’s achievements would also be a plus too.
I currently have two ferrets, and my sister has a very old cat, so due to the ferrets, I don’t really want a dog that is going to have a strong enough prey-drive to kill them. It isn’t like they would be alone together, but I want to be careful.
I do really like the looks of the Pyr Shep, though I’ve heard that they love agility a little too much, missing contacts left and right. If anyone knows anything about them, please tell me. A GSD would be great too, but its the size thats stopping me. I’m a little person.
So, what breed do you think would fit me?

Hi. I’m looking for a new puppy and I was wondering what the best breed of dog is. I would prefer a toy breed as I’m not sure weather could handle training a boisterous big dog. Here’s all the small dogs I’m aware of as have been looking at toy & utility groups. Could you tell me which ones you think are the best and abit about them etc. Also a picture if possible. Thanks, much appreciated xx

Best Inside Pet?

I really love dogs a lot and have wanted one for a long time now. I have been researching toy breeds for quite some time now and I can’t determine which would be best for me. I have almost come to the conclusion that maybe I should get a kitten. That away it is already potty trained, will not disturb the neighbors and is clean. Although this seems like the easy pet solution, I wouldn’t get to take it places with me as easily as a dog (to the park, riding in the car, etc). I have researched all the breeds, but I seem to find faults in all of them. I know there is no perfect breed, but for someone who works 4-noon five days a week, lives in an apartment, what would be the best breed between a chihauha, papillon, yorkie, pomeranian, **** tzu, maltese? If any other breeds are better, write those down for me. I’m looking for a relatively quiet, laid back dog that will be a great companion. Thanks!

What Is The Best Toy Dog?

I own a cat and guinea pigs so it would have to be ok with other animals. It would also have to be reletively easy to train and it would have to be quiet (not yapping all the time). What is the best toy dog to get?
I’ve been looking at a Papillon, does anyone have any experience with these dogs?

Is The Same Breed, As You Have, Best For A Second Dog?

I have a four month old female Japanese Chin. I’m considering getting a second dog, preferably another chin, a papillon, or a yorkshire terrier. Those are the three choices I am thinking of (even a yorki-mix possibly). The obvious choice would be to get another chin, but since there are two sizes of chins, those under 7 lbs (hard to find) and those up to 20 lbs, it’s very difficult to find the smaller chins and that is what I would want. My little girl is 2.5 lbs at the moment and will maybe get to around 5. I have looked everywhere for a male chin that will be about her same size, but they are VERY hard to find. I’m considering a male papillon or yorkie (or yorki-mix). Which is the best choice out of all of them and should I even get another one. My little girl is very well behaved, potty trained, doesn’t bark/cry, she is perfect! I’m concerned getting another dog may ‘make’ a problem, then again it could help her come out of her shyness in new situations. What should I do?

What Is The Best Way To Train My 3 Year Old Papillon To Stop Barking Constantly?

My Papillon is a 3 year old male and he barks at EVERYTHING! Guests coming to the door, other animals outside, other people/animals walking down our street, he looks out the windows in the living room and barks when there’s nothing there! He barks when we come home, when we leave! He barks at the SLIGHTEST little sounds! What can I do to limit him to barking once or twice or not at all when NOT NEEDED? He also jumps on everyone who comes in the door! HELP! Please, no suggestions that would harm or be considered cruel to any animal!

What Is The Best Way To Potty Train A 4 Month Old Puppy?

I am getting a 4 month old Papillon puppy and she’s not fully house broken. I am considering crate training her or keeping her in my kitchen with a baby gate and litter box training her. I know that both options have certain drawbacks. Is it possible to do both? I would be inclinded to lean towards litter box training her so that I could have her go inside if I am forced to leave her for a long period of time or am traveling with her.

My New Papillon Was Raised Sleeping In A Playpen, What Would Be The Best Sized Crate For Him?

I followed all the good advice and got a crate just big enough for him to stand up and turn around in and I think that it scares him since it is small. Would a larger crate work just as well? He is doing very well with potty training…he goes outside and does his jobs like a champ.
