Potty Training In The House?

I tried to potty train my 5 month old papillon puppy, Sophie, outside but it has NOT worked. Mostly because I go to school 30 min away and I also do Taekwondo in that same town for the rest of the day and do not get home until like 8:00 pm, so this will not work. I now want to potty train her inside, any suggestions?
There are some rules!
-Must be inexpensive
-Easy to maintain
-Permanent (something that she can use for the rest of her life)
Please help! Thank you!!! =)

Go to http://www.petsmart.com and get a Purina dog litter pan. You can get the dog litter (I have never used), pee pads, or I use the reusable pee pads. It takes a couple of days for them to get the idea but it works really good for me since I live in an apartment. I remind my chi to “go potty” and she runs to her litter box. Hope this helps. Good luck

i went through a year trying the newspaper, yelling, rubbing the nose in it, walking the dog every half hour, nothing worked until the vet suggested crate training. i thought that it was cruel to keep a dog in a crate all day but i was wrong, they love being in a “den” which is what they consider a crate. After a month the dog had the run of the house and never went inside again, (she ate everything in sight though) even after a weekend away. The trick of crate training is buying the correct size, too big the dog will go in the corner and sleep in the other corner, too small and the dog will become aggressive. i now have a 11 month old shepard mix and he spends about 10 hours a day in it and has never went inside, i also walk him for a half hour in the am and a half hour before bed time.

Keep him/her in a confined area, in that area(not the whole area) lay news paper down. the paper method is good but doesn’t teach your dog to not go poo in the house. the dog will feel compelled to go on the paper though.

There are piddle pads (wee-wee pads or some other name) available that are scented to attract dogs to use them for their bathroom needs. They aren’t expensive and they can be purchased at most pet stores.
Because she is a small dog, you could also train her to use a litter box.
The person who said he leaves his dog in the crate for 10 hours a day and only gives him 30 minutes of exercise twice a day is being cruel to the dog. There’s no point in having a dog if you’re going to leave him in a crate all day.
Crate training is a good idea, but the dog should only be in the crate at night and when you’re not home. Because your dog is only 5 months old, her bladder may not be able to hold her urine for as many hours as you’re gone, so you should keep her in a room where you can put newspapers or piddle pads all over the floor. Be sure to leave toys with her or she’s likelyl to chew up the piddle pads.
She’ll be able to use piddle pads or the litter box for the rest of her life because she’s a little dog. You’ll just have to keep the area scrupulously clean to avoid the smell of urine and feces in your house.

Try Puppy Pads. They are great to leave out if you are gone for extended periods of time. It will also keep your carpet stain free! I buy my puppy pads from mednetdirect.com
