I have a Pap/Pom mix. She's very gentle yet very protective. She isn't all that aggressive towards anything and she was easy to train. She has a tendancy to "piddle" when she's excited or scared and I was told that goes along with the breed. She doesn't bark to much only when something is bugging her or she wants attention. I have no idea about cats though - but if you get both as babies then they should be fine together.

Papillons are very easy to train obedience wise. They are listed as the only toy breed in the top ten of most intelligent dogs however you will have problems teaching a Papillon the concept of housebreaking. They are notorious for being hard to housebreak. However they learn tricks in a couple of sessions. Papillons do bark, you have to train them to stop on your command, most Papillons stop barking once you acknowledge whatever they are barking at. As for cats, Papillons are very catlike themselves and will no doubt imitate your cat in everything that they do. However if properly introduced you shouldn't have a problem with either of them.
