My Papillon Is Just Crazy!?
Filed under Care & Training Q&As
I have a male papillon who is about nine months old. I am, of course, going to have him neutered soon, especially since I’m still trying to housebreak him and keep him from marking up the walls.
However, I have noticed… he is HYPER! He will not listen to anything anyone says, he just jumps and bounces and runs and won’t come back in the house! Of course he is kept in a kennel for most of the time he is inside, because we have to supervise his house roaming due to the lack of potty training. It’s been very hard because I am pregnant and my mother insists on coming over in the middle of the day and letting him out into the backyard ALL DAY. To which he won’t come back inside! He is so use to being outside, he knows nothing else! How can I get him trained! I’m expecting a baby, but I can’t part with my papillon!

I also have a 9mon old male pap who is now housebroke. Here’s what i did. Load up a zip lock bag with soft liver treats and put them in my pocket. String cheese also works well. Take him outside as often as you can. Start with every hour on the hour. Slowly increase the time interval. Go to the same spot in the yard. When he goes say your key word and give him a treat. I use “hurry up.” Some people say “potty.” Eventually, you will be able to use this word when you’re traveling or at relatives and you need him to be quick about his business. When he wanders away from you, say his name and give him a treat when he returns. Slowly increase the distance that you call him from. Stash treats in the bathroom. Call his name from there and give him a treat. Don’t free feed him so he looks to you as his food provider. It just takes lots of repetition. You will do it soon.

aww soo cute papillions !! well , you have mentioned that the baby is 9 months old well he is a puppy and puppies love to play and to especially get your attention he just wants you to play with him , but now you have to show him that you are the boss and that you are the one who makes the rules start by say ” Come” when he is out side never ever be mean just a strict firm “No” will do when he still won’t listen come up and say come loudly , so clap your hands say come come and will start running ( do whatever you do to make him come to you basicly your way ) then say good boy when he comes give him a small treat meat or cheese , repeat this proceedure you can control every dog with time and patience if you cannot i sugest you go to obedience school with him , were theres a will there is a way he will catch on quick ! good luck ! hope i helped ! Congratulations with your baby !
