Okay great that he is potty trained! Good job.
Make sure the crate is not to small; so that his shoulders are not touching anything and can turn aroud. You want to have it so when he sits his head does not hit the top so about 3 or more inches from his head; he should be able to turn around w/out touching anything, and sit, and lay-down. Read the back of the crate. That should tell you, also, make this a POSITIVE experience!! Give him treats, toys, PRAISE, PRAISE, PRAISE!!!
You also dont want him to piddle in there. That is WAY to B----I-----G for him.
Hope this helps and good luck!

You can certainly get a bigger one. The idea is to give them a safe place to be when you can not supervise. If he is already doing well with housebreaking then it is very unlikey he will soil in his crate.

Using a larger crate may encourage him to use one corner of it as a potty.
Instead of getting a bigger crate, put more effort into making the crate an awesome happy place. Every time you walk by it, throw a couple treats in it and let him go in and find them on his own. Pretty soon he'll be thinking that the crate is the Magical Place Where Treats Appear! Give him his meals in his crate. Get a special toy that he just loves and only give it to him when he's in his crate. He'll come to see his crate as a cozy happy place where he gets lots of food and love and a nice quiet spot for a nap.

You might consider putting him in a small room, such as bathroom or laundry room, with a baby gate on the door. My yorkie-chi has run of our bathroom. I was worried about her chewing the cabinets, but so far hasn't touched them. At night she sleeps in a crate as you described you'd already got.
