I don’t understand why you’d be getting a breed that you know so little about. No good breeder would allow you to purchase a dog at this point. They want to to prove that you’ve done a ton of homework and are extensively familar with & prepared for the breed.
If a ‘breeder’ is willing to sell one to you without having conducted lengthy interviews and quizzing you on the breed, it’s a bad breeder. Dogs from bad breeders are more likely to have bad temperaments and major health problems. http://www.pbrc.net/breeding3.html can help you not get taken by a puppy mill/backyard breeder by unknowingly buying a low quality unhealthy dog.
Life Expectancy – about 12 years
Nice Dogs – depends on the quality of the dog and early socialization. When done correctly, they are very nice dogs. Poorly bred ones can be yappy, nippy, scrappy, and aggressive.
Easy to train – You’ll need loads of time & patience with them. They are intelligent, but fiesty.
Size – Properly bred, 8-11″ and 8-10lbs. Poorly bred, much larger or much smaller.
Coat – Hair is exceptionally long.
Food – High quality food like Natural Balance, Innova, Evo, Wellness, Pinnacle. How much depends on the food, your dog’s metabolism, and his activity level. Puppies should be fed 3-5 times a day. Adults 2-3 times.

1 – 10-14 years. Not one genetic disorder from the breed, AFAIK.
2 – Very nice, gentle and calm dogs.
3 – Papillons are one of the 5 smartest breeds in the world. I think they’re only behind Border Collies and Poodles.
    4 – As big as a standard size Yorkshire, Maltese… Small-size.
5 – Again, almost as long as a Yorkie, but shorter. They shed, however.
6 – If you never had a dog before, I suggest you adopt a shelter dog. A friend is met, not bought. If you can’t find the friend you’re looking for after some searching, then I’d suggest buying the Papillon you want at a trustable breeder. DON’T buy them from pet shops, there are high chances that you’re buying a “puppy mill” dog.

Definitely do your research BEFORE getting the dog.
Get a few books on training, the breed, and basic care.
Be sure this is the right breed for you.
Never buy from a pet store, online or from newspaper ads.http://www.stoppuppymills.org/
Also be sure you are financially prepared and have enough time to commit to a dog; dogs are lifetime responsibilities, not disposible toys.
