How To Stop My Papillon Fron Peeing On The Couch?

Ugh. I have a 2.5 yr old male pap. He is house trained to use papers on a tray. He has been doing this since he came home at 4 months old with no prob. Now all of a sudden he has taken to peeing on the corners of the furniture. Why on earth almost 3 yrs later is he doing this? How can I get him to stop? How can I get rid of the stench??

Hopefully you still have his crate around because when you can’t watch him like a hawk he needs to be contained in some way so he can’t keep practicing undesireable behavior.
He’s marking his territory. Anytime he’s loose you need to watch him constantly and if he starts to lift his leg gently correct with an “ah, ah” and move him away from the furniture if you have to. Be quick, as you well know he is.
Try soaking the couch areas with a solution like Simple Solution or Nature’s Miracle, it may remove the smell. I wouldn’t go replacing the couch just yet if it comes to that because dogs don’t understand the concept of “new”. Resolve the problem and then replace if you must.

Is he neutered? If not he could be coming into his sexual maturity which can make them more likely to mark. Sadly you may need to toss the couch if he has done it repeatedly. There may be nothing you can do about the couch.
