How Much To Feed A Papillon Puppy & Treats?

I have a 12 week old Papillon – so I realize he is still very young, but I was wondering how much and how many times a day I am suppose to be feeding him? I don’t want to over feed him – or not feed him enough, and I guess with that said, what kind of treats do I give him too?
Any other training tips would be nice!

I would feed him three times a day and follow the guidelines on the bag for starters then see how this does. If he needs more, give a bit more, if he need less, then cut back.
For treats, my papillons love Wellness’ line of treats a lot. They’re also nice and soft so you can break them up into small pieces for them.
look at the bag of dog food for feeding instructions. that provides only a rough guideline.
so you should follow and observe your dog. if he finishes everything at one go, give a little more the next time. if he can’t finish, just give lesser the next time.
through trail and error you should be able to figure out how much to feed.
remember to monitor his weight, make sure you can feel his ribs. if you can see his ribs, feed him more. if you cannot feel his ribs, he’s overweight!
as for treats, keep it down to 5% of his diet. if he’s getting fat, not only reduce the amount of food, reduce the amount of treats he’s getting also.
basically, if he gets a lot of exercise, he’ll need more calories. if he’s more sedate, less calories.
erynz, I like the look of a papillon. They are so cute.
Good advice above. I have found that, contrary to the advice of some vets who are more familiar with larger dogs, my tiny adults (5 to 6 pounds) require feeding at least twice a day or three times if very active and they can only be fed a small amount – 1/8 cup of high quality kibble each meal. For the less active dogs, I may use one meal as the treats fo the day. They enjoy working and showing off for their meals! When learning a new move, I use 1/2 pea size pieces of high calorie fooods like meat and “puparonies”. The dogs also love a SMALL carrot piece or a cooked bean just as much as the meats. When my three paps were pups (under one year) I fed them 5 times a day and gave them 20 minutes to finish what kibble they could. So far, no fat paps! Watch their “waist” and ribs and let the dogs guide you.
