A toy dog and a two year old child could be hazardous for the dog, they are delicate and small children can be rough. I know you have specified certain breeds but have you considered looking at the dogs trust to see if they have any dogs which are suitable for you? It looks like you want a companion who is good with small children, easy to train, and maybe a jogging buddy. The dogs trust have dogs which have been assessed, they are good at matching a dog with a family, you could go along to your local centres and meet some of the dogs, for the adoption fee your dog will be vaccinated, neutered, treated for parasites and chipped. There are other rescue centres too such as the RSPCA, Blue Cross etc.
If you want to go to a breeder then do your research and choose a breeder with care. Talk to owners of the breeds you like, do lots of reading and when you are sure of a breed start talking to breeders

Visit your local shelter. They are loveable and in need of homes. :( They are alot cheaper too. You can get puppies there. Mutts are the best dogs. They are friendly, have great temperment and are usually not high strung and are easy to train.

have a look at rescue sites, there are many in the uk. just google “yorkie rescue uk” for example, and you’ll find all sorts of leads. better and less expensive to adopt a dog than to buy one.
remember that the cost of buying a dog is just the tip of the iceberg. you will have to pay for food, yearly shots, spay or neuter procedure, as well as any unexpected vet visits that will be needed for the rest of the dog’s life.

Why not save one that isn’t a pedigree? They make nicer all around pets and cost a lot less. I’m sure there are pet shelters where you live or check the news papers in the classified section, or check on the web for shelters near you or people wanting or needing to get rid of the dog they don’t want anymore.

Why don’t you get a dog from the pound, they are free, and are usually a lot healthier and cheaper to keep than full breeds. Its one thing to save for a dog, its another to feed it and pay vet bills.
I have a cairn cross terrier, so I love terriers, they are great dogs, loads of personality, and good around the family.
as for earning money, how about babysitting, cleaning (cars or houses), or dog walking?

If I were you I would go with the Papillon hands down but I dont’ know anything about you so I can’t recommend
How active are you? Are you going to take the dog with you when you go to University? Or is mom going to be left with the dog?
How much exercise are you willing to give the dog
I’d say a Papillon is still my favorite from the group.
Chihuahua would be my next choice (but Chihuahuas and young kids don’t mix so if there are young kids around don’t go with that)

You could looking into getting a part time job like paper round also you could do odd jobs for family members like cleaning their cars or in summer cutting grass etc. Maybe you mum has some little jobs round the house you could do.It will take a while to save enough but will be well worth it. And you could use the time till you have saved enough to research each breed you and looking at to decide which is the best for you and you family.

Have a look on the website epupz and it will give you a good idea of prices etc. but ask at your local veterinary surgeries about litters that are probably coming up, and sometimes your vet knows of people looking to re-home dogs/pups. Dog grooming parlours often hear of people needing assistance with dogs they can’t keep also.
Good on you that you are willing to earn some money to help with the costs of getting your puppy. Whatever breed you take on, enjoy! I have 2 shih tzu girls, and have had a shih tzu boy and a yorkshire terrier boy. Dont forget about grooming costs if you take on a breed which requires to be clipped.
