Dog Marking His Territory?

Help! We just brought a new puppy into our home and our 2 year old papillon starting peeing everywhere. Is he marking his territory? Is it some sort of rebellion/jealousy? Or maybe confusion, since we are potty training the new puppy and have puppy pads out. Any solutions or tips you could give would be much appreciated. Our papillon is neutered, and hasn’t marked anything since then. We’ve had him since he was 12 weeks old, and he’s been our only dog until now.

Marking in male Papillons is only usually done by males that are not neutered. Males that are neutered usually don’t have the hormone levels that would cause them to mark territory.
With my group my males that are intact (i.e. not neutered) always were belly bands in the house to prevent accidents in the house. I have two older males that are neutered and I never have an issues with them marking.
The act of marking is usually triggered by the introduction of a female in season or a new pack member added to the home. My males and females run in separate yards. When there is a female in season this prevent unwanted pregnancies and prevents the males from marking my females which stains the brilliant white of the Papillon coat.
If you male Papillon is still intact I highly recommend neutering. It reduces the desire to mark territory and helps to prevent testicular cancer.

It could be marking, it could be confusion, it could be both. The best thing to do is watch him closely and confine him when you can’t supervise in order to prevent accidents. If it is too hard to keep an eye on him and the puppy at the same time, get a doggie wrap or belly band to place on him. http://www.smalldogclothing.com/index.ph…

i think he is just trying to get attention and this is the only way he knows how to. just try to re train him and punish him if he goes in the house.
