Does Anybody Have A Papillon Dog And Can You Tell Me If They Are A Good Pet?

I have really wanted to get a Papillon and I just want to see who all has had one and what they think of it. Do they bark a lot? Are they easy to train? Are they easy to potty train? Are they good inside dogs? Also, did you find it cheap or had to pay a lot???
Any help that you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

i have a 2 yr. old female papillon. they are great dogs to have as a pet. Raynee is so loving and sweet. I have only had her about 3-4 weeks now. I saw her in the thriftynickel pet ads. Now the lady who had her never messed with her or her sister or there mate. She just put them outside in the cold, raining, ice storm, and in the summer can you imagine. She told me that she was more interested in her horses than them. So i could only afford one so i chose her because she was more scared and standoffish than her sister and the mate. Now being outside all the time you would think she would not be able to potty train. Wrong she took to the paper right off. She is so smart and eager to please. And i thought she would be afraid of being inside or not happy wrong again she loves it and stays by my side all the time. we go to my sisters who lives right down the street and she plays with the two rotties and yorkie in the huge yard. She sleeps right by me at night and she hardly ever barks unless someone comes to the door. And i live in a apartment. So yes they are excellent pets to have and they love to cuddle and be loved on. Raynee gives me so much happiness and laughter i wouldnt know how to go or live without her. She has taught me so much. Go to the thrifrynickel and go to dogs in your city. Keep looking you will find one out there. Puppyfind.com has them on there but they were to expensive for me. I paid fraction of that price. and it was well worth it. And yes she is registered. I am looking for a male here in texas to bred her with with she comes in. Go for it you want be sorry.
I don’t have one, though it is a breed that I have looked into, I can tell you that they are very smart dogs and that they are ranked number 10 in the small dog breed ratings for good pets, have not found any breed illnesses like so many other dogs have, good luck, my vet said that the Papillon as well as the other breed which I am interested (the Cavalier Spaniel) are both pricey and I will need to have a full wallet when I go to purchase one
They are great dogs! I have a 9 month old, and no she does not bark a lot, she was very easy to train, yes they are kind of expensive I paid $750 for mine, and she was the runt the other dogs in the litter were going for over $1000, She is a great inside dog, and they also get along great with other dogs, they tend to show dominance over bigger dogs, they are very cuddle and affectionate. Great lap dogs! They love the out doors but will do just fine in a small space. They are the smartest of the toy breeds. She is my best friend, I love her and would highly recommend this breed of dog! Hope you choose a Papillon!
Oliveeya is the joy of my life! They are barkers though! You can train them out of it but like “Dreamer” said it is difficult to break the bad habits. If you train them as pups though it is super easy. Liv has never had people food (she’s 3) and doesn’t beg at all! Being home is so important! I take Livee to my grandmother’s when I have to be out of the house for long periods of time. This isn’t her favorite thing but he would rather that than be alone. You will never feel lonley with a Pap. I got lucky and house breaking her was easy, I really think it depends on the pap. While they are great in small places, make sure you take them out for exercise! Having a large yard isn’t enough, you have to actually get them away from home…even if it is just a walk around the neighborhood. They are Wash-and-go so grooming isn’t difficult…NEVER LET ANYONE CUT THEIR EAR HAIR! If you are going to take them to a groomer all they need is a sanitary groom. Nothing else! And Expensive is the word! Livee cost me $600, and that was only because I bought her twin sister too so the lady gave me a deal…She typically sold them for $800 each! Females tend to be more expensive than males. Males are more cuddly than females in general, but females do like to cuddle. The only down falls I have ever found with this breed is that they will eat anything so I have to keep all my cleaning products locked up, just like with a real baby and they think they can fly! Livee once wanted to get to me so badly she jumped over the back of the couch in a single bound! They are very child-like so if you ask them to jump to you, they will. So make sure you are there to catch them. Sometimes they will wait for you to look away before they jump!

well, i dont have one, but i heard that they make wonderful companions. search online for papillon breeders and email them for their opinoins
i don’t actually have one..but i have worked with them in training and care..and they learn easy..are very playfull..don’t get very big..and are easy to bath and dyr the hair.
1. Yes, they bark a lot. Most toy breeds do.
2. They are easy to train, for better or worse. By that I mean they very quickly develop bad habits (like begging and crying) that are hard to train them back out of. But they can be taught basic obedience very easily.
3. They are somewhat difficult to housebreak, as are most toy breeds, but it can be done.
4. They are only good inside dogs, you cannot leave a Pap outside, they are very delicate and will get heatstroke or hypothermia if left outdoors.
5. They are very expensive. A good quality pup from a real breeder (not a backyard breeder from a classified ad, or a pet store) will cost you about $1,000-$2,000, easily.
They are great dogs, but you MUST be home for them- they thrive on human companionship, and will become depressed or destructive if you leave them home all day to go to work. They need to be with people as much as possible. They also require daily combing of their long coats to prevent mats, and are susceptible to allergies, runny eyes, ear infections, and digestive problems.
