Breed Recommendations Please?

Okay so the dog must:
Be good with kids, be good with other dogs (smaller dogs), not be too hard to handle so in otherwords trainable or for the most part easy to train. Able to live inside but would have access to a small fenced in backyard. We are a young couple with poodle and a terrier mix (she is a Jack Russell Terrier mix)
We have been tossing around these breeds American Bull dog, Golden Retriever, Siberian Husky, Papillon, Cavalier King Charles spaniel, Shetland Sheepdog, Austrailan Cattle Dog (Blue Heeler), Beagle
We havent done much research yet but we are going to….those are just a few breeds we like.
We do not want: American Pit Bull Terrier, Rottie, Dobie, Great Dane, Saint bernard, (Or any Giant breed the only live about 8 years), we don’t want a Min pin, Chihuahua (though I love chis), or anything with the squished face ex. pug, french bulldog. And no shih tzus or lhasa apso. We already have a poodle and don’t want another poodle at this time.
Also keep in mind there is heavy BSL in the surrounding areas and our county is trying hard to fight it off so (pit bulls and rotties are out)

Okay, I have two dogs that I recommend to you that I think are the best and they are:
Golden Retreiver: super easy to train, super friendily and super sweet. The perfect family dog if you don’t mind a big buddy!
    —or—
Cavalier King Charles Spaniel: one of these best dogs ever! Super sweet and easy to train, loves children and are the perfect lapdogs. I own two and they are the sweatest angels ever. I recommend these dogs to anyone!

Ive had german sheps, a golden and labs.
Of course they all had different personalities and they all had good and bad traits.
Do more research on what will fit your lifestyle and your new dog can conform to.
My shep was protective, my golden was happy and loyal but really shed alot, my yellow lab wants to fetch anything all the time.
The site below has books on breeds if your looking for personality type dogs.

Huskies run away, Goldens shed. Looks like a Westie is a good idea, if trained properly, is very affectionate around other dogs and children and doesn’t shed very much. Similar to your dogs size and will probably get along if your dog is willing. Doesn’t have many problems except maybe needs to be groomed. They look like Malteses but with less fur. Very adorable, my uncle has one, he can be trusted around their newborn son and is very loyal.

i have two dogs a black lab half bread so he is way smaller than a normal pure bread. and a collie, and my black lab is the sweetest dog in the world same with my collie my lab is energetic and protective over his family but if you want a calm dog i would say a collie their sweet and calm and good family dogs decent size too

  5. ARE YOUR NEWFS GELLIN'? says:

Then do not get an American Bulldog, because they are likely to be caught in the BSL. And having just had one that killed a smaller dog, I would avoid this breed since you do not seem to have experience with this kind of dog and you have small dogs.

it’s not THAT accurate, but still fun to see what you come up with.
    Anyways… Petfinder.com is a wonderful tool!

  7. Purebred says:

I’d get a poodle, they live along time, they’re trainable, good with kids, toy poodles are good for inside with a little room to run around outside. I really hope this helped. ^^

  8. Mindy D says:

Sheltie or collie. Both great with kids and animals, and intelligent and want to please.

As a sucsessfull and loving owner of a sheltie I would suggest the Sheltland sheepdog, hang on while i get more info!
Two pictures of my shetland sheepdog Scout!http://i33.tinypic.com/1h8c5g.jpghttp://i35.tinypic.com/n5knpk.jpg
if he seems a bit big, that its because he is actually 22 inches the shoulder, plenty bigger than the breed standard, but we bought him from a great breeder on a pet contract. The mutation which causes larger size is quite prominent in shelties today, even very small bitches may have quite large pups! I believe that scouts mother was 16 or 17 inches!
Shelties are really wonderful dogs! They are sweet, calm, loyal and easy to train! They loved to be loved, and the whole point of their lives is to try to please you!
    BEWARE:
Shelties are herding dogs, so they are high energy and tend to nip ankles an loose pants very often as puppys, and will attempt to herd children and other small animals.

just go to the pound or local shelter and find a dog! there is major overpopulation in shelters and dogs deserve a chance to live!! good luck :]

I have two German Shorthaired Pointers, they are really good dogs and excellent with kids.

  12. John B says:

a golden from a reputable breeder or rescue

  13. dancingg says:

I suggest A Bouvier De Flanders, they are complete and total sweetheart. The worst thing they could do is lick you to death. They were breed fo be working dogs and they live an average of 10 years which is incredible for a bigger dog. They are great family dogs, they don’t sheed and they dont drull. I have 4 acers surrounded by woods and lots of animals, neither of the bouvies I have had would leave the proprety line, no training necessary. They do like to play outside, but they tend to be lazy if you let them. They are hearding dogs by instinct, but they do not bite. They come in Black, salt and pepper, grey, and brindle. Black being the most common. At a height between 24-27 in and a weight around 88 lb. There are rescue clubs that specialize in Bouvies if you really want to adopt. The only word of caution with getting these dogs is make sure to get them from reputable breeders, because the first dog we got died young because of inbreeding, but our second one we got from a better breeder and she is about 7 and has no health problems. Also it is not necessary to have them cut by a groomer, the showdog cut is similar to that of a shnauzer, but we do not keep our current one like that she looks much more natural the way we cut her

I’d get a golden. They’re very loyal and sweet. They’re trainable and they WON’T be too rough on your little dogs. I have a st. bernard/golden mix and a chihuahua. He’s very gentle with him, yet he still plays with him and offers companionship.
Just so you know, he’s about 1/2 St. Bernard and almost 11 years old now. He’s still going perfectly well. =) I’m glad. I couldn’t bear the thought of losing him, since I’ve had him pretty much since I was born (I’m 12.)
Please, though, go to a shelter first. They might have a breed similar to what you want, and they need rescued. Mutts are just as good house animals, if not better. =)
