Papillions are the best dogs in the World in my opinion. I was going to buy one, and I researched it a lot. They shed rather a fair amount. They’re the 8th smartest dog in the World. They #4 for the most affectionate and loving dogs. They’re extremely intelligent and want to please. Housetraining will take 2 weeks at the very top. Even the dumbest papillions will be housebroken under 2 weeks. The only reason I didn’t get the papillion was because they were $700. Expensive.

My aunt used to own one…Really great dogs! They are very intelligent and loivng towards their owners.Although they are kinda difficult to housebreak… Papillons are actually a lot tougher than they look! Some would characterize Papillons as a little moody and aggressive, but they are simply very possessive of their masters and “home turf”. It may surprise some that the Papillon is considered one of the most affectionate dogs. It is another very intelligent dog, and very easy to train.
Cons about Papilons:
Sometimes prone to problems with the kneecaps (patella) in the hind legs, this can sometimes be corrected by surgery. Also fontanel (an opening at the top of the skull similar to a baby human’s “soft spot”). It sometimes corrects itself but if it does not, the dog needs to be protected. Some have a difficult time under anesthesia.
Exercise needs:
Papillon need a daily walk. Play will take care of a lot of their exercise needs, however, as with all breeds, play will not fulfill their primal instinct to walk. Dogs who do not get to go on daily walks are more likely to display behavior problems. They will also enjoy a good romp in a safe open area off lead, such as a large fenced in yard.
